Creating a sketch

Add, draw on, duplicate, resize, pin or add a hyperlink to a sketch.

Create sketches from

  • The Span web client using a certified mobile browser
  • The Span web client using a certified computer browser
  • Span Workspace wall client

Create a sketch

From the web

  1. Select Sketch from the tools menu. For mobile browsers, tap the icon to open the toolbar.
  1. Draw your sketch

Change the color and weight of your ink.

  1. Click the done checkmark when finished
The sketch will automatically be added to your tray where it is only visible to you. Once you drag and drop the sketch onto your canvas, it becomes visible to the other canvas participants.

Alternatively, access the dwell menu by right-clicking the canvas in the web client. This action will skip adding the sketch to your tray and instead place it directly on the canvas.

On the wall 

  1. Press and hold your finger or stylus on the canvas to bring up the menu
  2. Tap Sketch
  1. Draw your sketch
Change the color and weight of your ink.
  1. Click the done checkmark when finished

Editing a sketch


Double-click on a sketch to go directly into edit mode.

For the online Span software, you can open edit mode by double-clicking items in your tray.

Quick tools bar
Click once on the sketch to bring up the quick tools bar. From this menu, you can
  —  open the edit box to add inking to the sketch
  —  duplicate the sketch
 —  pin the note

—  open the link (will only appear if a hyperlink has been added to the sketch)

Three-dot menu
Use the three-dot menu to
  • Edit opens the edit window
  • Duplicate creates an identical sketch
  • Pin pins the sketch to the canvas
  • Delete removes the sketch
  • Add link allows you to add a hyperlink to the sketch
You can also access the three-dot menu by right-clicking the sketch on the web, or pressing and holding in the wall software.

Resize a sketch

Sketches can be resized on the wall by any of the following methods:
  • Use the same gesture you would use to zoom in and out on an image using a touch screen (for the wall software)
  • Click the increase   or decrease   icons to change the image's size
  • Click the number between the increase and decrease icons, and type in a scale for the image (minimum 100, maximum 400)
  • Drag the resize handle to adjust the image's size
